Booklist Review
Emily Radley was so looking forward to a wonderful Christmas with her husband and children, but a request from her brother-in-law, Thomas Pitt (policeman and star of Perry's long-running series, which includes annual holiday installments), that she please spend the holiday with their very ill, somewhat estranged aunt pulls her away. Begrudgingly, Emily makes the arduous trek from her cozy London home to a remote part of the western shore of Ireland (traveling through the countryside in the 1890s was no picnic), landing in a town that's friendly but full of secrets. Terrible storms plague the village, but the townsfolk seem to fear more than just bad weather. As Emily grows closer to her aunt Susannah, she yearns to protect her in her final days, prompting her to learn what has the townsfolk so spooked. Naturally, she uncovers a long-unsolved murder. Emily emerges as a changed woman, shedding her cold facade and embracing the warmth of others. Another heartwarming, if crime-tinged, complement to the holiday season.--Wilkens, Mary Frances Copyright 2008 Booklist
