In this gleefully expletive-laced guide, Duncan empowers failed dieters to change their habits. She's a former chubby person who tried everything (cabbage soup, lemon water with cayenne and maple syrup for 10 days, meal-replacement shakes). So, always with a sense of humor, she conveys great empathy for everyone struggling with belly fat. A typical line is, I rode that weight-loss roller coaster like I had a season's pass and I wanted to get my money's worth. Her actual advice to exercise consistently, get enough sleep, reign in portions, fill half of every plate with vegetables is hardly revolutionary. But Duncan writes without judgment and with such joie de vivre, even while delivering the news that 25-percent of people abandon their New Year's resolutions after just one week, she makes working out first thing in the morning and downing loads of vegetables sound fun.
