Andra Lawler lives an isolated life on her family's ranch following a sexual assault. LJ Delisle has been stuck in a cycle of poverty and grief following Hurricane Katrina. When the black Creole cowboy leaves his home to train horses on the whitewashed ranches of Montana, his gentle attention to Andra during their time together helps her tiptoe out of her isolation. But Andra's father is suspicious of LJ. Before they can work through Andra's fears and her dad's objections, LJ's mother falls ill, and he has to return to New Orleans to care for her. Andra pursues him, and meets Hurricane Katrina survivors who understand her PTSD. Can they face the uncertain future together?
