  Booklist Review

Rogue and Gambit, one of the X-Men's favorite power couples, are assigned to work together during a downturn in their relationship. Kitty Pryde sends them on a mission to discover why a large number of mutants are losing their powers. Having set Rogue and Gambit up as a bickering couple at a remote island retreat, Thompson revisits the history of their relationship while they come to terms with what has been keeping them apart. The overarching story feels more like romantic comedy than the typical superhero tome, so those readers looking for emphasis on character over intensity will be satisfied. The couple is passionate, though the artwork is never overly suggestive. Thompson maintains the quick pace of a superhero comic, and D'Armata and Pérez's panels support the brisk story. The art occasionally breaks away from the usual panel layout, but it remains easy to follow. Readers who are not knowledgeable about the pair's history or the large X-Men canon will be able to easily jump in on the adventure, though die-hard X-Men fans may feel disappointed by the lack of fellow mutant representation.--Suzanne Temple Copyright 2018 Booklist
